Ready For The Fall

In Dallas this morning the temperature was below 80 degrees after 11:00. This is huge for us! Propelling thoughts I pondered; Is it almost time for fall? See below for my fall favorites.

Sunday Suppers

I know Heather is our resident foodie, however, I came across this blog last week and something has to be said about its greatness. I found myself reading deeply into pages of their weekly cooking experiences. It challenged me to think of how I could creatively entertain friends at home.

The Sunday Supper's blog is a collaboration by Casey Solomon and Karen Mordechai. They give the ultimate cooking class experience with friends and fresh market finds. Their suppers are hosted in Brooklyn, NY. As Casey cooks, Karen photographs in beautiful imagery making you feel like you are right there with them.

Stop by our nest to be inspired by great hostess gifts and home accessories for entertaining. I'm thinking the Jonathan Adler Vortex Bud Vase, filled with herbs and lavender for my table.

Pillow Talk: Aimee Wilder + Meg B

Pillows have increasingly become my favorite accessory! I have been struck with inspiration to switch up my usual drab colors. Beth recently produced striking skull pillows for her client that I lusted over and I have been coming across this analog nights pillow from Nest favorite Aimee Wilder all over the web! Visit Nest to see our Analog Nights wall and other swatches of her fun designs.

Alas a gift! One of my dearest friends, Celeste, has been crafting and selling her pieces via etsy for a few years now. She was one of my helpers for DIY stripes project. I just have to share the sweetest house warming gift she made me!

These pillows were made from vintage fabrics she found from a flea market. It means even more since it is from the market we used to go to in college. I absolutely love them! Thanks Celeste. Visit Celeste's page MegB on etsy. She's known for her fun take on laptop sleeves.

Downtown:Everything's Waiting For You!

This week Heather, Donald, and the gang are currently searching for great fall finds in none other than New York City. I can't help but wonder during their downtime if they are grabbing cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery, skipping through Central Park, and breaking out into song and dance on Broadway. None of these ideas are far fetched actually. However, in beloved, highly populated cities such as New York, there are always so many new places to see. My favorite new gift item Donald has brought into the store is City Walks available for adults and children. We are currently carrying the New York and Paris cases. In your city walk box, you are provided with 50 self-guided walking adventures. On each card you'll find an illustrated map and on other side information on where to eat, drink, stop, and shop! A great gift for a new traveler. Oh and Heather and Donald me and Beth love gifts from New York!

Austin Treat: Mambo Berry

Greetings from Austin! I have been enjoying a short but adventure filled long weekend in Austin, TX. Today, after my friends and I came back from a morning of kayaking, we ventured to Congress Avenue to visit the trailer stands of delicacies from cupcakes to snow cones. I decided to stay at Mambo Berry after sampling their green tea yogurt. I was hooked from the first bite. It was simply delicious. Make it a point to stop by and visit them if you are ever in town! I know I'll be making it an essential stop for every visit.

Tickets? Check!

My NY flight is finally booked, phew–and now it's time to start packing. For a month. EEK!

I always start with the travel attire. Easy-to-slip-off shoes: check. Comfortably chic number for the plane ride: check. Idea book: check. Laptop: check. Passport/ID:check.

So, I'm packing up the carry-on and something occurred to me. Four years ago when I bought Nest, there were few things in the store I related to enough to own. Now, I'm happy to have an assortment that fits my lifestyle. That sounds completely like a plug - which, I guess, it is. But it's a sincere one. Just a nice passing thought. We've come a long way, baby!

So here's what's in the bag from the store so far:

Lip Balm for the flight, the perfect size to carry on.

MOR body butter. Great smelling and won't spill inside my bag - yay!

My Document Case. If you travel and don't use this, your don't know what you're missing.

Idea Books. Inspiration seems to strike at the weirdest moments. Must have these handy.

Travel Alarm. A stylish little peace of mind is a beautiful thing.

Oh, come on–of course I've got stationery with me! In-air correspondence catching up to do.

My Black Book. Close to my heart - Pineider organizer is my leather-bound sanity.

I this just LOVE - It's definitely debuting on this trip!

So far, so good. Now, what to wear! Donald, Lauren and Chris will be meeting me there for meetings and buying. Then we're off to Milan for more of the same. Stay tuned for the reports, we'll have lots to talk about!

Before and After: Bradley's Heart Chair

Bradley is a great client of mine in Dallas, Texas who recently graduated college and is updating her look! We took her cute heart chair and modernized it by removing all the bells and whistles and giving it fresh upholstery and paint. The look is amazing and shows that you can update your home at any budget.

Keep an eye out for more of Bradley's transformations and take a look at her entire condo when we're all done! Oh, and Bradley, congrats on your position with W Magazine... we'll miss you while you're gone!

To contact Nest Interior Design email beth@nestdallas.com or call us at 214.741.1717! We'd love to help you with a transformation of your own.

What's Shh Shh Shaking

There is nothing I look forward to than a good, hearty meal. If I had these cool whale salt + pepper shakers (by Jonathan Adler) at my table, it would add even a little bit more fun to the table. Even more, I love the retro packaging. Other updates in his signature series are the garden of eden, penguins, mr + mrs. muse, lanterns, and fish salt + pepper shakers. This item retails at $48.

In honor of the shaker's I'll nominate the song of the day to be Rooney's I'm Shakin

The Tortoise and the Hair

It's time again to head to the Big Apple for a buying trip. I like to do a little sleuthing before I head out–check out what my favorite designers are up to. I'm curious to see where home design is heading. I have my own ideas, of course, but being in line with the bigs is always intriguing.

Then aside from the creative curiosities, there's the serious business of buying. I'm still a believer in risk, but the calculations have become more important and complicated. Anywhoo - that's not entirely what I started out to say.

Awhile back, I was checking out the Barbie House in Malibu that Jonathan Adler designed. Nest has been a fan of Adler for some time. His quirky translation of by-gone styles is fun, and even inspiring. One choice, though, I couldn't bend to. No matter how hard I tried, I thought it was weird. It was the Barbie Hair chandelier. Yikes.

I guess by comparison, one can only take the musings of such designers in stride. Everyone knows you don't walk down the street in the same ensemble that's shot for the pages of Vogue, so there's some relative license that's allowed, I guess, for the sake of creativity. But still.

On to what I drooled over! This lamp. There were 2 lamps I loved from this collection, but by far my favorite was this tortoise luminary. Elle Decor and Mertopolitan Home both touted this beauty. Classic meets contemporary. Quite fetching, wouldn't you say?
